Mother's Day!

This year was a great Mother's Day. Brian actually let me sleep in until 11:00am, which was really nice. We went to church at 2:00 and headed down to American Fork afterward for a nice Mother's Day dinner. Okay, I have to tell you all about this favorite tradition of mine.

So, my Grandpa Bill always held a special Mother's Day dinner for all the mothers. The men would serve their wives and take care of all the childrens' needs during this fabulous event. This event happened every year, until my Grandpa passed away in 2006. On Mother's Day, I always think about the wonderful man that my Grandpa was and I always miss him terribly on Mother's Day. I can even remember a few years back when his health wouldn't allow him to cook the big, grand Mother's Day dinner, and he actually took all the women in our family to brunch at Mimi's Cafe. (If you know the Ellison clan, there are many of us women!) He always made it a point to let all the Moms, women, and daughters know how special we are. He was an incredible man.
Anyway, now that my Grandpa is no longer with us, my brother Jake has taken over as organizer of this event. He made steaks and fabulous asparagus for all of us, and Brian and Chad also contributed with salad and rolls. Jake even served us, which was really great. My little brother Jeff was really great to serve us our dessert and to help Brian and Chad with the kids. My Mom, sisters and I got to sit at our own table and eat with minimal disturbance.

I really love Mother's Day, for the fact that I get to reflect on the wonderful life I have and the beautiful children I have the opportunity to raise. I don't know why I was trusted with such a great responsibility, but I hope I am able to do at least half the amazing job that my own Mom did raising us. Anyway, I thought I would post a few of my favorite pics of my adorable kids and hope they will always know how much their Mom loves them!

Your Grandpa Bill was a sweet heart! This is the first time I've heard of that tradition, but I agree that it's a great one. Happy Belated Mother's Day Natalie. -You're a great Mom.

That is such a cute picture of Andrew and Noah!
It was fun to hear about your family's Mother's Day tradition! I think it's wonderful, especially how your grandpa's tradition is carrying on, that's really great!

we do have a great tradition!!! I miss Grandpa a lot, too. (Jack wants to say: "I love Andrew and I love Noah and I love your bunkbed from Jack" Bye.) Anyway, it really was great to just sit with the 4 of us and feel waited upon. (Even if we did all the prep and much of the cleanup:) I can truly say I have the best family and the best sisters!

Grandpa Bill was such an amazing guy. That is a great tradition and kudos to Jaker for taking over!

Tell your sisters to invite me to their blogs--I feel like such an outsider. If they don't-- I'm going to show up at their houses when we're in Utah with a medley of Niel Diamond hits.

I got a little teary-eyed reading this. I miss Grandpa too! I think it is kind of funny that I always think of him the most on Mother's day. I'm glad Jake is keeping up the tradition in your family. Steve is trying to keep it up out here.
