Today in Andrew's school class, all the parents were invited for a special "Come to Kindergarten Day." It was really fun to go and see exactly what the kids do every day and the methods his teacher, Mrs. Bittner, uses to teach the children. All the parents participated in the daily routine. We even went to recess with our children. Then, at the very end, the kids performed their opera, "Plenty of Penguins." This was the best part of the entire experience.
I was so impressed with this little production. The kids wrote the opera themselves and decided how they wanted to perform it. I have been so impressed with Andrew's teacher this year. She is an amazing teacher and has a very "hands on" way of teaching the kids. They sing a lot of songs to learn many different concepts. The arts are very important to her, so she really focuses on using art in all different areas: (math, reading, science etc.) She has really helped Andrew to progress in ways that I never would have imagined when the school year began. Anyway, I loved "Come to Kindergarten Day." I left the opera with tears in my eyes. Who would have thought this is where Andrew would be 7 years after his very traumatic birth?
